Time to get back to nudging

Monday, May 7th, 2012

Boy, oh boy, the Flyers better be limbering up their golf swinging muscles, because they are getting beat soundly by a better team. I think there are more injuries than what is being reported – Grossmann, Hartnell, and Couturier for sure. Grossmann just hasn’t been the same since his concussion in the Pittsburgh series, and I’m guessing that he would not be playing if they had more options on the blueline.

I’m not hopping off the band wagon at all – I’ll be rooting as hard as I normally do for my beloved orange and black during game 5. And who knows, we steal one at home, maybe Lavy figures some way to pull more forwards down low to help our slow-footed defenseman out with that amazing cycle game… we could climb back into this. It’s playoff hockey, anything can happen.

OK, back to work… I’ve got a slew of projects that need a little nudge to get across the finish line. Time to get back to nudging…

Movie Reviews…

30 Minutes or Less – Dear people that made this film, Comedies are supposed to be funny. I don’t find Danny McBride remotely funny… at all. Nick Swardson was pretty good though.

great weekend, busy Monday

Monday, April 30th, 2012

Today is another busy one. We had a great weekend – Bubs’ ice hockey team won, the Manhassett block party was a blast, the Flyers won, and it was great to be playing softball with my buddies again. Now I better get back to coding.

a short reflection on not missing what is good

Friday, April 27th, 2012

Today is another busy day of coding for me and then another softball game for Viv. I’m so happy she is enjoying playing a sport. She’s a great little athlete, but always been hesitant to try a team sport. There are a lot of life lessons for kids playing sports that with the right situations, really pay big dividends for them in confidence and learning to be around others.

I was not able to be at all of Viv’s game last night because of my parent teacher conference for Bubs. And as expected, he’s doing awesome. His teacher and I talked about how he loves challenging himself and how much he has been thriving. Very grateful for his teacher and everyone at Neeta, they have done such a great job for him this year. Too often, the only items that appear in the news are solely bad things happening in education – well, here is a kid that is doing incredible in a public school.

On top of those two short people that I live with, Abbe is in process of getting back to school in hopes of finding a better career. Not many in their mid-thirties think that going back to school is an option, but Abbe has found an affordable and manageable means to do so and I’m so damn proud of her.

Life carries a bagful of hurt for all of us. It’s easy to notice the bad when it arrives. But the good stuff, sometimes it’s more subtle. Sometimes, we don’t see it, feel it, hear it, or see the smile on our own faces. I just wanted to make sure I spotted my own smile today. See if you can spot your own, I bet it’s there.

OK, I better get back to that coding.

sleep gratitude

Thursday, April 26th, 2012

With a major project deadline looming by close of business tomorrow and an another by next Tuesday – I’m a busy coder lately. But throw a half day for my kids on top of that, and now, I’ve got to be running at even higher RPMs. Thankfully, my sleep has been good since the nasal spray diagnosis by my doctor. Boy, it feels good to be well rested. I’ve never had much trouble with sleeping and now, I have a new found respect for folks with sleep issues. Tough, tough stuff.

Movie Reviews…

Martha Marcy May Marlene - very good film. Slow moving and dense at points, but heavy subject material, so warranted. A woman leaves a cult and attempts to get back to some sort of life. Her sister takes her in to live with her and they struggle through undoing the mental and physical torture she endured as a member of the cult. Not a lot of action, but some incredible scenes, and a great open-to-interpretation ending.
