the big whew

Tuesday, April 24th, 2012

Well, I’m happy to report that the pulmonary department at Deborah Heart & Lung confirmed what my family doctor had told me – the over the counter nasal spray was causing my sleep issues. Amazing that a product like that could cause that much turmoil in my life. I was just trying to clear my sinuses and it turned my days into hell for about two weeks. I’m using Flonase until the seasonal allergies pass, and I have been sleeping much better. I think I’ll enjoy some truly restful sleep once the Spring blooming stops shooting pollen up my nose. I have to say, with my family history of both sleep apnea and heart disease – this was a huge relief. Thank you very much Dr. Martin, and the great staff at Deborah.

proud moments in big brotherhood

Friday, April 20th, 2012

Yesterday evening was great! I got to help coach Viv’s softball team last night. Pitching to Viv and all of her buddies was awesome. On top of that, …now here’s the part that really made me proud… Bubs took it upon himself to gather all the bats and batting helmets and lined up for the girls between half innings. I am so proud of both of them.

Hi, my name is Van… and I’m crazy busy today.

Hi, my name is Van… and I’m crazy busy today. More good nights of sleep. Feeling very good since replacing breakfasts and lunches with juicing. More on all of this later.

Movie Reviews…

The Debt – excellent spy thriller. The cast is really top notch and although this is a remake of an Israeli original, it still feels original.
The Ides of March – very good political thriller. Fairly compelling story, but there is nothing blowing up – it might bore the average movie goer.

the shortened make-up day is now an even busier make-up for the make-up day today

Tuesday, April 10th, 2012

On top of having a catch-up after the holiday weekend busy day, my body just kind of shut down on me yesterday. I think it was not sleeping well on the floor and my sinuses being indecisive with the fluctuating temperatures. But around 2pm yesterday, I had to tell all of my customers that I was calling out sick for the remainder of the day. The good news is that I did get everything done that was absolutely necessary and a very large project for my biggest customer is on target and should make them smile really big in a couple of days.

That said, the shortened make-up day is now an even busier make-up for the make-up day today.

Smooth Operator

Wednesday, April 4th, 2012

Bubs had his first practice with his ice hockey team last night and he had a blast. On the way towards the locker room, standing there helping his son get his gear off was none other than Chris Pronger. And me, being the smooth operator that I am, was so awestruck to see this future first ballot NHL Hall of Famer, all I managed was to point, stare and say, “that’s Chris Pronger!” And of course, Chris happened to make eye contact with me just as my pointing stupid finger was at it’s apex. I felt a bit like an ass, here’s this guy that is recovering from a probably career-ending concussion and just came to the rink for his son and there’s dorkasaurus rex pointing at him. Thankfully, Bubs was much more cool and collected.
