Thanking a Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day
Yesterday was horrible, but I can’t tell you how thankful I am with it’s outcome. A client let me know that due to an issue with their billing company, my hours are being cut back. It was recurring work that I could count on every month too, which is terrible. Just when I started entertaining thoughts of “hey, maybe I can stop charging for guitar and piano lessons and just teach my friends” – that bomb hits me.
But then later yesterday afternoon, I got a phone call from a very shaky Abbe, “I’ve been in an accident. I think I’m OK. My arm kind of hurts and I think the air bag hit my ear and mouth. My car is messed up. Cops are on their way.”
She’s OK. She’s OK. She’s OK. She’s OK. She’s OK.
I asked what she needed and waited to hear back from her so the kids and I could come pick her up. Here’s what the scene looked like when we got there.
Abbe was heading down N. Elmwood Road, which has a somewhat sharp turn towards the intersection with Main St. As she came around that turn, she found a car that was (we think) traveling too fast, sideways on her side of the road. The side of the oncoming car slammed into the front of Abbe’s car. The airbags went off and possibly saved Abbe’s life. Both Abbe and the other driver are OK (although you never know if you’re totally OK for a few days after a car accident). The other driver was given a ticket, both cars looked (in my opinion) totaled.
So despite the super bad news on the job front, Abbe is alive and it absolutely could have been much worse. I’m extremely frustrated that right when my business seemed to once again be picking up steam, another set back – but there is always something to be thankful for. I can work more hours to make up for that income lost – I can’t replace my girl. And I want to thank anyone that is reading this that works towards making automobiles safer and the Evesham Township Police, Fire, and EMS squads for getting to the scene so quickly.
I’ve never been so thankful to eat dinner with Abbe while she picked newly found pieces of glass in her hair.
OK, so enough of that stressful stuff, ready for a laugh? I post those guitar lesson videos all the time, not just to show off my hockey jersey collection, but to help my guitar students with a frame of reference to practice their “homework”. Sometimes it takes me a couple of takes, I like to get it right (of course), and sometimes… this… (as you can tell, Viv is feeling herself again)… this is me attempting to record “Ooh La” by The Kooks for Jan…
- Forehead Tittaes w/ Marion Cotillard
- Beer Pong Dunks – thanks Sage
- Wall of Deaaaaaaaath – that’s totally safe

We were all quite shocked reading about Abbe’s accident Van – a loved one of mine also made a
lucky escape recently, so I can totally empathize with your feeling of profound relief. Cars can be replaced, the lives of the one we love cannot.
As for balancing the budget: let me join the club amigo. One day there’s that light at the end of the tunnel, the next day it’s back to square one.
But in the end, it’s all about being with the ones we love. Do give my regards to Abbe and let her know that if I would have been in need of a dress, she could have counted me in as a client (somehow, I hope that will put a smile on her face)

jeez guys – My heart is with you. Abbe – Happy birthday, anyway – I am glad you are alright. Here’s hoping this year will be the one with all the breaks for you two. 2010, things turn around for everyone.

Whoaa, really glad Abbe was ok. Perspective is always good, isn’t it? Oh, and your video just cheered me up. I like the way she rocked out at the end.

Life comes at you fast, glad Abbe’s all right.
Your guitar clip is awesomely adorable.
About the budget, it’s only money. We have been ridiculously struggling for years now, but we’re a happy family. So it all comes back to: glad Abbe’s all right.
I’m sending a big hug from my family to yours. xo d

So glad Abbe is okay, how scary! I’m with Diane…we always say, “it’s only money”. Sometimes it’s hard to remember, but what you went through today makes it real. It’s all about those you love. Nothing else comes close. Hope your weekend is good…you deserve it!

Glad to hear that she’s okay – and while this is a small concern, since someone else got the ticket, her car should get repaired. As for the job thing, that sucks – hopefully something good comes in it’s place to occupy your time (a lottery win only seems fair).

#1. I’m so glad your Love is ok. That’s scary. Period.
#2. Are you aware of how sexy GOOD guitar playing (like I just witnessed) is!!??
#3. The teeheheeee at the end totally made me smile!
Here’s hoping we all have tons of work with tons of cash attached to it headed our way!

Hey, sorry to read of your horrible day. I’m glad Abbe’s okay, I hope there are no belated bruises come out but you have each other and that is a good thing. Take care and I’m hoping your next week is a better week.

First of all, I’m really glad Abbe is ok. Scary stuff though!
Sorry to hear about the setback with the business. That’s partially why I stopped doing contracting as my sole source of income … too unpredictable. Also, being self employed I found my boss was a dick, and my sole employee was a real slacker.
My newish day job is actually really cool, though the pay sucks. However, my side work makes it OK that my day job doesn’t pay that well, so right now it’s sort of win-win. Wish the day job paid better so I could drop the side work, but this is the best balance I’ve found so far. Hope something else comes along to fill the gap!

Thank goodness Abbe is okay. Tell her she’s had her quota of car crashes now and she’s not allowed to have any more.
Sorry to hear business is tough. My hubby works on a commission basis and it’s ugly out there.
