Mom Back in the ER

Well, my Mom decided she hadn’t been to the ER in a month… ergo, she slipped and fell at the movie theater last night and badly broke her femur. She is in traction at the hospital now waiting to have surgery (most likely Sunday).

Last evening around 6pm, my phone rang and it was Judy, a very good friend of my family, calling – last time Judy called was when Mom went into adrenal shock, ergo (I’ve used ergo entirely way too much already in this post) my heart sank a bit when I saw her name on the caller ID.

I called my sister Amy and we met at the Virtua Voorhees ER. When we saw Mom’s leg in the immobilizer, the odd angle led Amy (an RN at Lourdes) that Mom’s hip was probably broken or dislocated as well. After x-rays, it was revealed that hip is OK, but she did a number on that femur. I saw the actual x-ray and the bones are at nearly a 90 degree angle.

I’ll provide another update as I can. I know many family and friends read this, so if you want to call, please call me or my sister.

[update] Just heard, they are moving her to Virtua Marlton.

God, Van. You guys have had more than your share of shit in your lives. I’m so sorry for your poor mom.

She wasn’t leaving the theater after watching Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay, right? Because that would make it even worse.

My plan is this. You build a giant plastic anti-gravity ecobubble (like I am building for MY children…I found the plan on the internets). You put your family in it. They are not allowed to leave. There is no gravity, so there is no falling. Easy peasy, right?

    Perfect.

Take care and wish her well.

  11.  Jenny, Bloggess Says:

I want in on that ecobubble thing.

also, I love the auto-spam thing that thinks you’re writing about movies when actually you’re writing about your poor mom breaking her bones. Good job autospam.

My sister-in-law stepped wrong off a curb while carrying her son on Halloween, fell and fractured her femur. She was in her early 30s when this happened, and she ended up in the hospital for 10 days, then in a rehabilitative facility, and then in a wheelchair–with four boys to take care of at home!

So I know this is serious. Wishing you the best.

Jeez, Van… tell the universe to let up a little. It’s like having your head held under water by the big kid at the pool. Wish we all lived closer so we could help out. Hang in there.

fb – just catching up on your weekend posts. First and foremost I hope your mom is feeling and doing better! I have On The Road Again sitting on the bookshelf next to my bed, I will now start reading it after your review, on another note, North By Northwest is one of my favorite movies!!! I love Cary Grant, he is cool epitomized. Hopefully you didn’t see yesterday’s Flyers game. However looking on the brightside, and being a Philly sports fan that’s all we can TRY to do, they should be in it for the next few years. I hope you are doing better, and those pictures are priceless.

Take care and give my best to your mom.
