some days, it really does take a village
Yesterday was a reminder of how awesome my friends and family truly are. I was still incredibly drained by the day, but I get it. I am lucky, absolutely. So here’s what went down…
The day before my ex-wife, Dana had a nasty migraine, my mother brought her to the doctor to get some treatment. She was still very much out of it and I had to take on a little more than usual the day before yesterday (no biggie). Yesterday however, I had a meeting at the unemployment office and Dana also had a 2nd interview right around 1pm, which was also when Viv’s swimming lesson started and Bubs gets out of camp too. The plan was for my mother to pick up Bubs and take Viv to her swimming lesson.
Well my mother woke up with a nasty stomach bug and with her Addison’s Disease, this can be very bad news. Like potentially go into adrenal shock bad news. After talking to Mom, Dana and I started rallying a backup plan. Our friends Kim and Julie were going to take Viv to her lesson down at the lake beach and Dana got a hold of Bubs during his day at camp so he would know to ride his bike down to 3 Beach instead of back to my house. I called my mother back to check on her and to let her know everything was handled. She didn’t answer.
I headed over as fast as possible with the worry that I would be calling 911 and escorting her to the ER. It turned out my mother was OK and just didn’t have the phone nearby. I called our family friend, Judy the Awesome and she came over to keep an eye on mom while Dana went to her interview and I was able to keep my appointment at the unemployment office. Whew!
I was so spent at the end of the day. Mom is doing much better after some rest. Dana’s migraine came back again, but she’s hanging in there. Thank heavens for our friends, on some days, it really does take a village – and this village kicks butt.
Abbe came home to me after working all night and listened to me tell her about the day, I freaked out a little from just not having anything left for anyone. Abbe is such an amazing person, she listened and then she told me about this chat with one of her co-workers…
Abbe: Hey, look at that table full of guys, two of them have those douchebag beards.
Co-worker also with a douchebag beard: Abbe, look at my face.

So glad Mom is well and Dana is too. Thanks to your extended family/village! If I were closer, I would fer shur help out.
I love Abbe, I think we may be seperated at birth conjoined twins. That is TOTALLY something I would say. I actually said something about Enrique Iglasiais’ big assed facial moles to a chick that had the same ones on her face…and I had no way of pulling my feet out of my mouth as I realized what I was saying to whom….yeah.
Did you call the ex-bil kick ass mortgage guy yet?

It’s cool with you that I have a total girl crush on Abbe right?
I am happy your mom and Dana are both doing ok. You are very lucky to have such great friends who will help you out. I know what it is like to feel overwhemed, and then how good it feels to know you aren’t in it alone and that there are good people around to help out.

That day was crud on a cracker. I’m glad all back-up plans came through okay; it’s nerve wracking, when trying to hammer into place plans for kids who may not track all the details. I hope everyone’s feeling better today.

i have migraines..
benedryl and a heating pad..its better than anything ..
take about 2-100000000 pills ( I usually take 4, but have taken enough to kill a small adult )
and crank the heating pad to high and put it on the ouchie part ( mine is always behind the right eye .always)
I know this sounds like bullshit but it works…
and she’ll know its working when the benedryl makes her sleepy..for some reason a massive amount of benedryl doesnt even touch you when you’re in pain
