Flat Stanley is traveling with a pretty Kiwi lady
You know what? I’m sorry folks. I totally forgot to tell you about something else really cool in Bub’s schoollife – his Flat Stanley project. I contacted Di Mackey, (also, here’s her photography blog) one of my favorite bloggers, photographers, Kiwis, and Antwerp, Belgium residents (in a three-way tie with Peter and formerly V-Grrrl) to take Stanley along with her to Turkey and she agreed! Here’s the really cool part about all of this – Flat Stanley will be starting his journey off in the country that contains the city and lake from which our first name derives (there’s also a breed of cat named after the area too). I have a few of Di’s shots up in my home and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with.
Bubs and I read a new book last night, The House in the Night – this was well-below his reading level, but the illustrations are gorgeous and with it’s object association, serves as a slightly updated version of Goodnight Moon.
Movie reviews…
Revolutionary Road – this was good, but very, very hard for me to watch and definitely added fuel to the “legally indemnifying yourself to another human being (aka marriage) is stupid” fire. Not recommended to anyone in a less than happy relationship, which is approximately 70% of all of you.

I LOVE Flat Stanley! 3 of my kids have done it so far in school. We received one from a cousin and had the best time taking him all over the place and taking pictures and writing the letter. So much fun! And how awesome that Stanley gets to see a place so important to you and your son!

oh wow, what an exciting place for bubs’ flat stanley to go. i hope you’ll share some of the pictures. that’s so special.
as for the books, sometimes a lower reading level is just fine especially when the artwork is so superb. hey, i’m a grownup and i still love picture books. i’d love to own all the caldecott winners.

Chris – yep, Bubs really like finding Antwerp, New Zealand, and Turkey via Google Earth

That is awesome! I am such Flat Stanley failure. My friend’s daughter asked me to have a visit with Flat Stanlita (because she’s a girl).. only she didn’t tell me when the project was due… I don’t think the teacher had a real hard date either… thankfully I got her last because otherwise the poor kid would have had very little to turn in. I think I gave it back to her about a month late. I suck.

Flat Stanley rocks…you are totally hooking Bubs up on that one! You are one cool dad!
Revolutionary Road…just watching the previews gave me nightmares…yeesh, the pain of trying to endure that one. Yeah, I don’t think I will ever allow another man to have papers on me again…

I’m convinced Di will be honored taking Flat Stanley along with her to Turkey Van – she’s a very empathic woman.
I was in Turkey last fall and it’s a pleasure reading that Bubs really likes finding Antwerp (Belgium), New Zealand, and Turkey via Google Earth.
Hint: since Google hasn’t finished Street View in Belgium yet, let Bubs try maps.live.com:
they have a bird’s eye view on street level:
little Van will be able to peak right in my living room or
watch Di’s balcony.

We yuvs Flat Stanley, too; I do think the first book is the best, but that didn’t keep me from snapping up the Christmas Flat Stanley at Goodwill yesterday.

Hooker upper … uh huh.
I thought I would try and stick to one blog post a day … but knowing me and the fun Jessie and I had today, there might be more. There should be a new one or two for your wee man in your morning.
