The Flyers’ season came to an end last night. A OT loss in game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals. The heart in this team is amazing. Going through 5 different starting goalies. Michael Leighton and Ville Leino coming to the team as basically out of work players and becoming integral parts to this championship run. They made the playoffs on the very last game of the season by beating the Rangers in an OT shoot-out. Losing Lappy to a puck to the face in the Devils’ series (only to see him recover and return in the next series). They were down 3-0 to the Bruins and came back and won the series. Mike Richards amazing goal against the Habs. Scottie Hartnell tied the game 6 with only 4 minutes left in the game. But that was were the Flyers’ luck finally ran out.

Along that, the kids and I watched a lot of games together this year (on TV and a couple in person). And that one night when this daddy, the stickler of routine, finally let Van and Viv stay up late to watch a playoff game on a Friday – happened to be a Flyers’ victory.

I couldn’t be more proud of this team. Thanks Flyers, that was awesome.

This weekend will be chocked full of dance recitals and a lot of work for me. I promised the kids that we would all stay up late and watch the Flyers tonight. Sunday night, I am going with Doug, Jan, and Robyn to see the Broken Bells at the Electric Factory in Philly. Busy weekend, but I’m hoping for a good and busy weekend.

Last night, Bubs got to go to a free ice hockey lesson at the Flyers’ Skatezone with his Mom and Viv and I headed to The Sand Stand for some ice cream. Bubs came home exhausted and feeling awesome, telling me about the goals he scored. Nice start to the weekend for sure.

The Flyers are in the Stanley Cup. I can’t believe it. And I doubted this team, big time. I actually was hoping that they would not have won that 82nd game of the season in an overtime shootout. Mostly because I wasn’t happy with the goal-tending and hoped that missing the playoffs would encourage them to go get a real number one goalie. Based on the past, I was right. But this is playoffs hockey. There has never been a story like this team. Look at Michael Leighton and Ville Leino, both basically out of work at mid-season and now Leighton owns three conference finals shutouts and Ville has contributed 12 points. I couldn’t be happier for being so wrong. Amazing. Keep it going boys, 4 more wins.
